Governance

The Strategy Research Foundation (SRF) is an independent, nonprofit corporation, recognized as 501 (c) (3) organization and as public charity. It is incorporated in the state of Indiana and it is governed by a Board of Trustees.

Apart from the administrative interlocking, the relationship between the SMS and SRF - while close in spirit - is at arms length in governance. The current President of the SMS is the Vice Chairperson of the SRF, and only three trustees of the SRF will be members of or be determined by the SMS Board of Directors.

The figure below shows the general governance structure of the SRF. Responsible for policy will be an eleven member Board of Trustees. The Vice Chairperson will be the current President of the SMS. The Executive Committee will be composed of the three task officers for grants, the technical task and the development task, the Chairperson, and Vice Chairperson.

SRF Governance Flow Chart

Under the leadership of each of the task officers are committees that will be comprised of at least 12 members each. These volunteer members will come from invitations, from sponsors who will have a voice in the determination of research programs, and will be a mix of experienced academics and practitioners capable of understanding research and applications of research results to practice. It is this group of volunteers that will be the key and genesis of the new knowledge generated by the work of the SRF.
