Research Grants & Awards
Please expect more information on the initial focus of the SRF research program, a request for proposals, and the application procedure to be available here in the Spring of 2010.
Obtaining Research Support
The SRF funds new strategic management research related to the start-up, growth, and survival of organizations. It examines topics important to academics, practitioners, supporting corporations/institutions, as well as society at large. Results are disseminated as widely as possible to the interested public—through conferences, workshops, seminars, publications, and other venues.
Two broad classes of research activity are supported. The first class is topic oriented, with topic selection governed by the needs of the field as seen by competent and experienced experts. These topic-oriented requests for proposals will be confined in scope and immediate in need. The other class is broader in scope and lengthier in time. This research is more of a ‘program’ composed of several coordinated, invited research projects intended to significantly practice, teaching, and/or research in strategy. These types of programs might ordinarily be too involved, risky, and extensive in scope to be undertaken by individuals or other institutions.
No one approach or methodology is preferred by the SRF. As long as the methodology is appropriate to the question at hand, the research, studies may be qualitative, quantitative, conceptual, empirical, literature reviews, etc. The SRF believes research is most useful when academics and practitioners work together on all stages–from developing objectives and planning to gathering data and reporting results.
Eligibility and Types of Support
The SRF provides support–financial and nonfinancial–for research by faculty members and doctoral students. Financial support is awarded as grants, competition prizes, and/or awards. Financial support is limited to direct expenses–no salaries are paid for the principal investigator(s). Nonfinancial support includes access to data, materials, academics, and practitioner.
Grants
The SRF typically provides research grants. The range of grant amounts depends on the proposals and scope of the research, as well as the resources available to the SRF. Grants generally support data acquisition, research assistance, travel, publication, and other activity surrounding research work.
Competition Prizes/Awards
The SRF will sponsor competitions similar to those offered by the Strategic Management Society. Researchers will be able to submit their papers for best paper prizes in various categories, top scholars will receive recognition, etc.
